Up at Glassy Waters in Newton Falls Ohio, Buckeye Buoy Tour stop number four, Pick Your Partner, went down with a cash prize on the line. The Gassy Waters site lived up to its name, with skiing conditions being very sublime. Several skiers skied personal bests. Skiers were seeded by handicap and head to head winners from the first round picked their partner for the second round from the pool of losers, then tried to advance as a team by skiing head to head against another team, all the way towards the $300 cash prize awarded to the winning pair. Dave Miller and Sam Ingram finished first, with Michael Beinhauer (a skier from Illinois who traveled here with his son Holden) and Casey Warren finishing in second. They earned $50 each. Skylar Rogers and Joan Miller got $25 each for third place, and the team of Larry Zanko and Holden Beinhauer finished in fourth place.
Here is the official scorebook. Check out more photos on the OWSA Facebook page.

Buckeye Buoy Tour stop #1, “Bark at This” at Barking Shores and Pleasant Shores, was completed this past weekend (6/24/17 and 6/25/17). The slalom format included two rounds of slalom with an optional round 3 turn and burn ... your cash...pass, and a 6 skier finals. Skiers that "turned and burned" who failed to beat their second round score paid $10 to a cash pot, which the slalom winner took home. It was a very pleasant day, lots of sun and only about 15 minutes of rain. Andrew French had an overall lackluster performance, which was expected. Kevin Houser was able to edge out the other five finalists to win his first slalom title: Jon French, site host John Gorski, Mary Nelson, Jack Kuenning, and Keri McClure were the other slalom finalist. Chris Caldwell won jump, and Kayla McClure won trick Sunday at Pleasant Shores.

Have you heard about the new team competition of AWSA? If not, click here for a full overview. Basically, every state in the country will be sending a team to the regionals to compete against all of the other states (think Midwest Medal Count from years past). The difference this year is that the winning team will advance to the National Championships and here is the really cool part: a competitor on their state team DOES NOT have to be qualified in their individual event to ski at Regionals or Nationals for their team. Mike Bruni of Bootsarosa Lake tied the M4 State Slalom record July 16 with a score of 2 @ 41 off! The record was previously set by David Miller of Bellalago Lake in 2011.
Annemarie Wroblewski tied the G2 State Slalom record at the Shortline Shores Buckeye Buoy Tour Stop #4 (Pick Your Poison) with a score of 2.5 @ 32 off. She tied Keri McClure who last set the record in 2003.
