Fun Format Ideas

A "Fun Format" can come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  Anything that invokes competition or fun could be considered a fun format.  Here are a few examples and brainstorming ideas for fun formats:
  • Head-to-Head (Handicapped) - Skiers go head to head in a bracket with each skier having a handicapped based off of their average buoy count.
  • Head to Head (Straight Up) - Big Dawg style tournament where highest buoy count wins.
  • Qualifying - Top Cat style tournament where skiers ski against the entire field or group in hopes of making the "finals".
  • Team Competition - Skiers are placed into 4 or 5 person teams at the beginning of the tournament and a champion is crowned at the end.
  • Survivor – 10 teams with 4 people each.  Skiers go against average and team member with lowest average gets the boot.  110 total pulls, all skiers guaranteed two rounds.
  • Boat Challenges - MasterCraft / Malibu / Nautique challenges where the person can pick the boat and ski for that team.
  • Round Robin – Skiers placed in groups of 4, top skier gets 4 points, 2nd place 3 points, etc.  Second Round groups are switched up.  Third Round can be another switch OR top scores from first two rounds compete for third round.
  • Tag Team Round – Team format where the skier MUST start where the last person on their team left off.
  • Run the Gamet – First person starts at 15 mph Longline and as a team you must run EVERY speed and line length thru 32 off 36 mph or 35 off 34 mph.
  • Qualifying with Alternative Events for Finals - Spin It to Win It (how many passes a person could do in a row at a specific line length), Cold Round (skiers start the round at their last full pass), 36 mph challenge (all skiers go 36), etc...
  • Collegiate Scramble – Collegiate modeled team tournament where skiers are paired into teams and compete together for the win.  Teams would be named after Ohio collegiate teams.
  • State Championship Team Challenge – Each club supplies their own team.  Top 5 slalom scores and Top 3 trick and jump scores go towards the overall title.  Scoring is handicapped based on skiers average.
  • Pick Your Poison - Variation of a head-to-head format.  First round is head-to-head based on seeding.  The losers of the first round are put into a "pool" and the winners of the first round then choose who they want to ski against from the pool in the second round.  If you lose twice you're out if you win twice you advance to the finals.  Three rounds of qualifying plus the finals.
  • A La Carte - Not sure the exact details, but it would allow the skier to "build" their day based on different options that would cost different amounts of money.  $x per round, $x to ski at a specific time, $x to get your own cabana with drink boy, $x to get scored one extra buoy towards your BBT standings, $x to have access to air conditioning, $x to have a specific song played when you ski, etc.  Most of it would be fun stuff and it could be a good fundraiser towards the BBT.
  • Wheel of Death - Get a big wheel that each skier would spin to determine things like opponent, or starting speed, or skiing without gloves, or wearing a stupid costume while skiing, and other fun stuff that would put a little spin on the event (no pun intended).
  • Pick Your Partner - After 1 round of qualifying the winners of round 1 pick who they want to partner up with for the remainder of the tournament.  The top duo win the event!
