BBT #3:  Annual Dottie T Pick Your Poison Results

7/10/2018

The weather was flawless for an ideal July weekend, as the great Shortline Shores hosted yet another spectacular Buckeye Bouy Tour stop on July 7-8! The annual Dottie T Pick Your Poison included 42 different skiers, and 12 three-eventers.  Even thought it is called BBT #3, this was only the 2nd BBT of the season because BBT #2 was cancelled due to high water.

Jeff Cyphers was the slalom champ on his home site, after skiing 1 buoy at 35 off do advance into the finals head-to-head round. Rachelle (Shelly) Rogers shortened the rope into 28 off for the first time ever in the finals to solidify her top three spot. Shelly finished second, and Kevin Houser placed third. He scored above his average several passes, skiing 3 at 28 mph.

Andrew Shea won trick, with a two pass score of 2160. Skylar Rogers tricked his way to second with a “surface O,” scoring higher than a previous average of just two side slides. Third place went to Alan Vollmar with 2820 points. Other high trick scores included Emily Dammeyer 3780, Keri McClure 3390, Kristen Dammeyer 3320, and Kyle Dammeyer with 2830.

Sunday’s jump rounds were a success for Trace Mollet, who jumped 72 feet. Mike Rouse jumped impressively, with a 98 footer, earning himself second behind Trace. Jack Kuenning had a farthest jump of 35 feet to round up the podium. Le Rouse had the farthest jump of the tournament, flying 137 feet.

Kevin Dammeyer scored the highest overall score, with 2167.4. The Buckeye Bouy Tour will return very soon. On July 14-15, the 3rd BBT of the season (called BBT #4!) will be host at Pleasant Shores in Van Wert, OH.

The 2018 BBT Season has Begun

6/21/2018

A sporadic fall of raindrops begun the morning of June 16, as the Buckeye Buoy Tour kicked off the 2018 season with the “First 3 Event Dog” at Bees & Skis in Bowling Green Ohio. The rest of the day was hot, with the refreshing lake providing everyone great skiing conditions.

Slalom was conducted in three groups.  The top half of each group after two rounds advanced to ski a third time in the finals.  Five skiers got into 38 off. Greg Kuenning, John Gorski, Eric Kolb, David Miller, and Ted McColley.  Jackson Lanich got 1 at 28 off in the opening round, impressive skiing this early in the season for the Boys 2 slalomer.

Mallin Blaxall finished first in the handicapped BBT results after skiing 3.5 at 28 mph, 15 off in the finals, which was a whole pass improvement from her first two rounds, and her average.  The other podium finishers in slalom were: Jack Kuenning (2nd), Kelly Kerns (3rd), Greg Kuenning (4th), and Le Rouse (5th).

Five skiers scored 2000 plus points in tricks. Kevin Dammeyer, Elizabeth Fowler, Kayla Herstad, Keri McClure, and Kristin McClure.  Kristen McClure finished first in the BBT trick scoring. The other podium finishers in tricks were: Skylar Rogers (2nd) and Kevin Dammeyer (3rd).

Leland Rouse had the farthest jump, with a 139 footer, but the BBT handicapped scoring format saw Jack Kuenning finishing first with a 32 ft. jump, Kayla Herstad second (80 ft.), and Paul Vaitkevicius third (68 ft.).  Read the full AWSA scoring results here.  See more pictures on the OWSA FaceBook page.

AWSA Drivers' Clinic Held at Skiers' Runway

6/5/2018

Skiers from the Cincinnati area concluded a AWSA Drivers’ Clinic at Skiers’ Runway this past weekend (June 2).  We were fortunate to have four senior drivers share their experiences and enthusiasm to about ten students who plan to advance their waterski ski tournament driver’s training.  Combined tournament driving experience between Bruce Baker, Ron Troeger, Tim McKune and Greg Kuenning was close to 150 years!  Safety and excellence were stressed, as well as the need for constant practice and improvement.  OWSA is thankful to these four men for their time commitment and dedication to our sport.  Hopefully, more such clinics can be arranged to keep us all well trained.  Please email info@skiowsa.com if you are interested in Driver's, Scorer's, or Judge's clinics in Ohio.

BBT #5 and State Tournament Notes

7/17/2017

State Tournament Weekend Notes:

  • The weekend gets underway with BBT 5 - the Dottie T Pick your Poison (Slalom only) on Friday July 21th at 8 am.  Note: this is separate sanction from the State tournament, so if you intend to ski in this tournament you will have to sign up separately.   Skiers Note: This tournament is different than the rest of the BBT’s as the highest seeds are the first off of the dock.
  • The State OWSA annual meeting will be held at Dammeyer’s Boat house at 8 pm or at the conclusion of the Dottie T finals.   The Van Treese family will be providing dinner for skiers and their families in honor and memory of Dottie Troeger.   The selection of the site for the 2018 State Tournament and election of officers for 2017-18 will be determined during this meeting (agenda here).
  • The State Tournament will start at 8 am on Saturday, July 22nd.  Parking will be along the lane that runs on the west side of the lake.  Please try to stay as close to the driveway as possible because it has been wet and we want to limit how much of our yards get torn up.  There should be plenty of room for RV’s and campers as well.
  • For the slalom and jump events we have elected to have each competitor ski behind the same boat that they drew for Regionals and Nationals.    Random draw of the boats resulted in skiers behind the Malibu going 1st, Mastercraft 2nd, and Nautique/Centurion 3rd.  The running order will be from lowest to highest seed order.   So the rough running order for Slalom will be:

                   Malibu: G3, W3, MW, W7-11, OW, B2, M2, M9-11
                   Mastercraft: W2, W6, B1, B3, M5, M7-11
                   Nautique/Centurion: G1, G2, W5, M4, MM, W1, W4, M1, M3, M6, OM

  • The Slalom event for all age groups will be first, followed by the Junior Trick and Junior Jump events.
  • The Adult trick event will start at 8 am on Sunday, beginning with the W1 thru W11, then M1 thru M11
  • The Adult jump event will be start at the conclusion of Adult Trick with the following order:

                  Malibu: W1, W2, M2, MM
                  Mastercraft: W4, W6-11, M3, M5
                  Nautique/Cent: W3, MW, M4, OM, W5, OW, M1, M6-11

  • The State Banquet will be held at the Varsity Lanes Bowling alley lounge located at 91 Herzing Street in St. Marys (just off of St. Rte 66).  You can start arriving at 6 pm, but the meal is scheduled to be served at 7 pm.   Presentation of the awards will follow the meal.  Adult beverages will be available for purchase in the lounge.  Lemonade and tea will be included with the meal.  The Banquet is free of charge for all competitors and will cost $10 for any guest.

BBT #4 - Pick Your Partner Results

7/15/2017

Up at Glassy Waters in Newton Falls Ohio, Buckeye Buoy Tour stop number four, Pick Your Partner, went down with a cash prize on the line.  The Gassy Waters site lived up to its name, with skiing conditions being very sublime.  Several skiers skied personal bests.  Skiers were seeded by handicap and head to head winners from the first round picked their partner for the second round from the pool of losers, then tried to advance as a team by skiing head to head against another team, all the way towards the $300 cash prize awarded to the winning pair.  Dave Miller and Sam Ingram finished first, with Michael Beinhauer (a skier from Illinois who traveled here with his son Holden) and Casey Warren finishing in second.  They earned $50 each.  Skylar Rogers and Joan Miller got $25 each for third place, and the team of Larry Zanko and Holden Beinhauer finished in fourth place.

Here is the official scorebook.
