The Buckeye Buoy Tour is our way of bringing fun and competition to the sport of 3-event water skiing! Founded by Greg Kuenning in 2009, there are 5 stops on the tour each year. Competitors can attend as many stops as they would like, and compete against their own average to earn points. Read more about the scoring concept.

Host a Buckeye Buoy Tour Stop
The requirements for holding a Tour Stop are pretty simple and have been put into place to ensure that the event is held to a minimum standard. Clubs are encouraged to go above and beyond the minimum requirements in an effort to make your Tour Stop a memorable event. Planning nighttime activities such as parties or cookouts will help you to win your bid. There will be a maximum of 5 Tour Stops per year and 1 of those 5 may take place during the State Championship.
REQUIREMENTS:
$75 - 2 Events
$90 - 3 Events
30% Discount for Juniors
100% Discount for Chief Officials & Appointed Judges
Tournament Director may discount fees for their own Club Members or others if they choose. No club can be denied a Tour Stop for more than one year. If you did not hold a tour stop in the previous year, then you are guaranteed your bid so long as you meet the requirements. The only exception would be if 5 or more clubs put in bids who did not hold an event in the previous year. In that case, clubs would vote at the fall meeting on which bids to accept. After all automatic bids have been assigned, the remaining bids (if any) will be voted on by the clubs at the fall meeting.
The 5th Tour Stop or the State Championships may be responsible for festivities on Saturday night which will include the presentation of awards to the Overall Tour winners. The 5th stop would ideally be a 3-event stop. In the event that there are not enough jump or trick events within the 5 tour stops, other 3-event tournaments around the state may be designated as "Buckeye Buoy Tour Stops" for those events. For example, the jump event at a random 3-event tournament could be included in the BBT to ensure an adequate number of jump stops within the tour. These modifications to the tour will be voted on at the Fall Meeting.
To place a bid for a Tour Stop, email it to OWSA prior to the Fall Meeting.

BBT Format Ideas
A "Fun Format" can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Anything that invokes competition or fun could be considered a fun format. Here are a few examples and brainstorming ideas for fun formats:
If you've got an idea or concept for another Fun Format, email it to OWSA!
- Head-to-Head (Handicapped) - Skiers go head to head in a bracket with each skier having a handicapped based off of their average buoy count.
- Head to Head (Straight Up) - Big Dawg style tournament where highest buoy count wins.
- Qualifying - Top Cat style tournament where skiers ski against the entire field or group in hopes of making the "finals".
- Team Competition - Skiers are placed into 4 or 5 person teams at the beginning of the tournament and a champion is crowned at the end.
- Survivor – 10 teams with 4 people each. Skiers go against average and team member with lowest average gets the boot. 110 total pulls, all skiers guaranteed two rounds.
- Boat Challenges - MasterCraft / Malibu / Nautique challenges where the person can pick the boat and ski for that team.
- Round Robin – Skiers placed in groups of 4, top skier gets 4 points, 2nd place 3 points, etc. Second Round groups are switched up. Third Round can be another switch OR top scores from first two rounds compete for third round.
- Tag Team Round – Team format where the skier MUST start where the last person on their team left off.
- Run the Gamet – First person starts at 15 mph Longline and as a team you must run EVERY speed and line length thru 32 off 36 mph or 35 off 34 mph.
- Qualifying with Alternative Events for Finals - Spin It to Win It (how many passes a person could do in a row at a specific line length), Cold Round (skiers start the round at their last full pass), 36 mph challenge (all skiers go 36), etc...
- Collegiate Scramble – Collegiate modeled team tournament where skiers are paired into teams and compete together for the win. Teams would be named after Ohio collegiate teams.
- State Championship Team Challenge – Each club supplies their own team. Top 5 slalom scores and Top 3 trick and jump scores go towards the overall title. Scoring is handicapped based on skiers average.
- Pick Your Poison - Variation of a head-to-head format. First round is head-to-head based on seeding. The losers of the first round are put into a "pool" and the winners of the first round then choose who they want to ski against from the pool in the second round. If you lose twice you're out if you win twice you advance to the finals. Three rounds of qualifying plus the finals.
- A La Carte - Not sure the exact details, but it would allow the skier to "build" their day based on different options that would cost different amounts of money. $x per round, $x to ski at a specific time, $x to get your own cabana with drink boy, $x to get scored one extra buoy towards your BBT standings, $x to have access to air conditioning, $x to have a specific song played when you ski, etc. Most of it would be fun stuff and it could be a good fundraiser towards the BBT.
- Wheel of Death - Get a big wheel that each skier would spin to determine things like opponent, or starting speed, or skiing without gloves, or wearing a stupid costume while skiing, and other fun stuff that would put a little spin on the event (no pun intended).
- Pick Your Partner - After 1 round of qualifying the winners of round 1 pick who they want to partner up with for the remainder of the tournament. The top duo win the event!

BBT Handicap Scoring Rules:
Skiers will be ranked based on average buoy count (from rankings list) over the past 12 months.
Each skier will be skiing against their "Average" otherwise known as "Handicap" throughout the tournament.
Scores are calculated by taking your score from any given round and dividing it by your average. A score equal to your average would give you a handicapped score of 100%. A score of 1 buoy over your Average would equate to a score of approximately 101%, a score of 2 buoys below your handicap would equate to a score of approximately 98%.
If a skier skis over his average, then that score becomes his new average for the next round. (For example, if a skiers average is 3 @ 35 off 34 mph and he runs 5 @ 35 off, then 5 @ 35 off becomes his new average for the remaining rounds unless he improves on that score again.) This rule keeps everything more even as you advance to the Finals and you have shortline skiers coming up against kids and slower skiers who can greatly improve their buoy count from week to week.
When calculating a skiers Handicap from the National Ranking database, penalties applied in the National Rankings will be removed for the purposes of scoring Tour Stops. In other words, if a skier has only skied one tournament in the previous 12 months, then the score from that tournament will be their Handicap. The penalty applied by the Ranking List will be removed.
Unless otherwise specified, ties will always be awarded to the skier who went first off the dock.
A maximum of average score of 102% to 110% will be used as a cap depending on the format. Cap to be determined by the BBT organizer prior to or during the event as needed to best level the playing field. Cap shall be the same for all skiers in said event.
