A sporadic fall of raindrops begun the morning of June 16, as the Buckeye Buoy Tour kicked off the 2018 season with the “First 3 Event Dog” at Bees & Skis in Bowling Green Ohio. The rest of the day was hot, with the refreshing lake providing everyone great skiing conditions.
Slalom was conducted in three groups. The top half of each group after two rounds advanced to ski a third time in the finals. Five skiers got into 38 off. Greg Kuenning, John Gorski, Eric Kolb, David Miller, and Ted McColley. Jackson Lanich got 1 at 28 off in the opening round, impressive skiing this early in the season for the Boys 2 slalomer. Mallin Blaxall finished first in the handicapped BBT results after skiing 3.5 at 28 mph, 15 off in the finals, which was a whole pass improvement from her first two rounds, and her average. The other podium finishers in slalom were: Jack Kuenning (2nd), Kelly Kerns (3rd), Greg Kuenning (4th), and Le Rouse (5th). Five skiers scored 2000 plus points in tricks. Kevin Dammeyer, Elizabeth Fowler, Kayla Herstad, Keri McClure, and Kristin McClure. Kristen McClure finished first in the BBT trick scoring. The other podium finishers in tricks were: Skylar Rogers (2nd) and Kevin Dammeyer (3rd). Leland Rouse had the farthest jump, with a 139 footer, but the BBT handicapped scoring format saw Jack Kuenning finishing first with a 32 ft. jump, Kayla Herstad second (80 ft.), and Paul Vaitkevicius third (68 ft.).
